The Volvo 850 played a crucial role in redefining Volvo's image in the 90s. Before the introduction of the 850, Volvo was mainly associated with conservative designs and cars with an angular appearance. To break through this, Volvo developed a modern and sporty model that combined both style and innovation. Despite its angular design, the 850 offered excellent aerodynamics. It was also the first Volvo with front-wheel drive and four airbags, which was groundbreaking at the time. Volvo invested significantly in the design of this model to make it a success.
The sedan and station wagon models, produced between 1991 and 1997, have since developed into beloved youngtimers, thanks to their timeless design and reliable performance. Under the bonnet there was always a five-cylinder engine, which gave the 850 a distinctive sound, known as "The Roll" among enthusiasts. To further strengthen its sporting image, Volvo took part in the British Touring Car Championship, where it was striking that Volvo even took part in the races with a station wagon.
In 1995, Volvo introduced the 850 T5-R, according to many the highlight of the 850 series. This top model, available in the colors yellow, black and dark green, was based on the T5 and co-developed in collaboration with Porsche.
The successor to the T5-R, the 850R, was introduced in 1996, followed by the V70R in 1997-1998. The vehicle in question, with registration number SN-843-B, is an exceptionally well-maintained example of the 850R in manual sedan version. This car clearly shows the careful maintenance of the previous owner. The interior is in excellent condition, and the original Volan wheels are like new. The engine has been completely upgraded and now delivers 331 hp, as shown by a test report. Although the odometer reads 212,161 km, an OBD analysis shows that the actual mileage is 214,000 km, suggesting that the odometer may have been adjusted.
The car has a new MOT.
