In 1999, Ferrari introduced the 360 Modena as the successor to the F355. This model marked a new step with a completely new and lighter aluminium chassis and a powerful 3.6-litre V8 engine. While the F355 was in fact a significant evolution of the previous 348, Ferrari brought a completely renewed design with the 360 Modena. The addition 'Modena' in the name refers to the Italian town where Enzo Ferrari was born in 1898.
The 360 Challenge is a racing version of the Modena and differs drastically from the street model. The interior has been completely stripped down to save weight: leather seats, carpets and luxurious aluminium trim have been replaced with a single OMP racing seat, an integrated roll cage and a fire extinguisher in place of the passenger seat. Soundproofing, airbags, the handbrake, air conditioning and electric windows have also been removed. These modifications reduce weight by about 110 kg compared to the standard Modena.
The 3.6-liter V8 engine remained largely unchanged, with high-quality components such as titanium connecting rods, a dry-sump lubrication system, and variable valve timing. Thanks to a lighter exhaust system, the power increased slightly to 410 hp. These improvements allow the 360 Challenge to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, more than half a second faster than the Modena. For better braking performance, larger Brembo brakes (14 inches front, 13 inches rear) and improved brake pads have been added, along with an ABS system from Bosch.
This example was built in 2000 and participated in the Spanish Copa Shell in the past. A few years ago, the car was brought from southern Spain to the Netherlands, where it was fully checked and maintained. Among other things, the oil of the engine, gearbox, the F1 system and the brake fluid were replaced. The strings have also been renewed, as well as the overhaul of the adjustable Penske shock absorbers. New brake discs and pads have been fitted, and the chassis has been checked and overhauled where necessary.
The original Magnetti Marelli system is included, but does not function fully. In recent years, the car has successfully participated in several trackdays and competitions at circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, Assen and Oschersleben. Thanks to its reliable engine and gearbox, this Ferrari is the ideal choice for trackday and circuit racing enthusiasts.
